Program Description
TASP is an experiential therapeutic group program targeted to kids who are having current or emerging emotional and/or behavioral challenges. TASP focuses on achieving three key outcomes: 1) Improved self-control; 2) Improved communication and problem solving; and 3) Increased respect for self and others.
Program Components
- Strengths-Based - Kids and families learn to focus on what they are doing right and how their unique strengths can help them through difficult times.
- Family Activities - Meals, family groups and parenting classes
- School Connections - Staff communicate regularly with school personnel and transportation from some local schools is available
- Commitment - Families make a twelve-week commitment to the program with progress evaluated
in the middle and at the end of the twelve weeks.
- Fee - The fee for the program is $20 a week and scholarships are available.
Hours of Operation:
Kids arrive at our center at 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. Pick-up time on Wednesdays and Thursdays is at 7:00 p.m. On Tuesday evenings, families join us from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for parent education, dinner and a family experiential group.
Who should you refer?
- Kids who need a safe place to practice pro-social skills in a group setting
- Kids with current or emerging emotional and behavior challenges
- Kids who are truant, suspended, have behavioral referrals, or low commitment/achievement in school
- Kids associated with delinquent/aggressive peers
- Kids who have difficulty solving problems
- Kids who are depressed or anxious
- Kids who experience family conflict or difficulties
- Kids with motivated parents who are willing to participate
Who would the program not target?
- Kids who show a reoccurring pattern of physical aggression
- Kids who have aspergers/autism or need more specialized treatment
- Kids with significant developmental or cognitive delays
- Kids suffering from psychoses or who are a danger to self or others
- Kids who are involved in substance abuse to the extent that they are consistently intoxicated and could not participate meaningfully in TASP
