STUDENT AND FAMILY DEMOGRAPHICS:
- 241 students were continuously enrolled in Threes, PreK, Kindergarten,
and 1st – 6th grades at JEJCS during the 2006-07 school year.
- 79% of JEJCS students qualified for free or reduced lunch.
- Spanish was the family language for 60% of students; 31% spoke English
at home; and 9% spoke both languages with their families.
- Of the 241 students enrolled at JEJCS, 96.7% were Hispanic, 2.9% White,
and one student was African American.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT:
Reading at or above Grade Level
- 90% of K – 6th graders read at or above grade level at the
final testing.
TAKS
- 93% of 3rd – 6th graders passed the Reading portion of the
TAKS test, and 27% were commended. All 3rd – 6th graders took
the TAKS tests.
- 89% of all 3rd – 6th graders passed the Math portion of TAKS,
and 32% were commended.
- 97% of 4th graders passed TAKS Writing and 53% received Commended
Performance Levels.
- 68% of 5th graders passed TAKS Science, and 18% received Commended
Performance Levels.
Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS):
- All 1st – 6th graders took the ITBS tests.
- 52% of all 1st – 6th graders scored in the top half of the
national norm in Reading on the ITBS. (Average = 49.6)
- 67% of 1st – 6th graders scored in the top half of national
norms on the ITBS Math test. (Average = 62.8)
- 59% of 1st – 6th graders scored in the top half of national
norms on the ITBS Language test. (Average = 58.4)
Language Acquisition:
- Spanish speaking students in the Early Childhood program gained
18 months in English abilities during their first year of school (the
Three Year-Old class) and gained a total of 30 months by the end of
their PreK year. English speakers made greater gains during their
first year (25 months), but almost every student, regardless of family
language, achieved Kindergarten Ready status by the end of
their PreK year.
- 96% of Kindergarten students, regardless of family language, read
at or above grade level.
PARENT PARTICIPATION IN THE SCHOOL:
- 99% of parents stated that they were satisfied with the education
that their children received at JEJCS.
- 99% of parents stated that they were satisfied with the way in which
they (parents and families) were treated.
- 100% of parents said that they would recommend JEJCS to others.
- Parents of 95% of students participated in two or more conferences
with JEJCS staff during the school year. The average number was 3.98
conferences per student.
- Parents of each Three year-old student participated in an average
of 8 home visits from the Family Guidance Coordinator through the year.
They also met with the classroom teachers more than 4 times.
- There were a total of 190 student school days in 2006-07. Average
daily attendance for all students was 98%.
