Student
and Family Demographics:
- 222 students from 161 families (94% were Hispanic, 2% White, 2% were
African American, and 2% were of mixed ethnicity).
- 75% of JEJCS students qualified for free or reduced lunch.
- Median income, $29,702 per family; median tuition, $75/month.
- 72% of mothers and 65% of fathers were high school graduates.
- Spanish was the family language for 61% of students; 31% spoke English at home; and 8% spoke both languages with their families.
Student Achievement:
TAKS (Goal = Scores reflect 'Exemplary' achievement using TEA
standards, i.e. 90% passing)
- J. Erik Jonsson Community School
attained Exemplary Status in 2008-09 for passing rates that
exceeded 90% in all TAKS tests (Reading, Math, Writing and Science) for
all students.
- 93% of 3rd-5th graders passed the Reading portion of TAKS; 43% were commended.
- 93% passed TAKS Math; 43% were commended.
- 100% of 4th graders passed TAKS Writing; 39% were commended.
- 96% of 5th graders passed TAKS Science; 73% were commended.
Early Childhood English Abilities (Goal = 85% will
gain 30 months in 2 years or attain Kindergarten Ready levels in
English)
- 88% of PreK students gained 30+ months in two years at JEJCS or achieved
Kindergarten Ready.
- 74% of Three Year-Olds gained 15+ months in English abilities.
Other Ends Policies:
- 97% of Kindergarten - 5th graders read at or above grade level.
- 100% of PreK students and 92-100% of Three Year-Olds demonstrated
proficiency or emergence (developmentally on track for this age) in
Personal/Social Development, Language and Literacy, Mathematical
Thinking, Scientific Thinking, the Arts, and Social Studies. 71-92% of
Kindergartners demonstrated proficiency across the domains. (Goal for all domains = 90%)
- 98% daily attendance for all students.
Parent Participation: Parent Satisfaction (Goal = 95+% express satisfaction with JEJCS)
- 100% of parents were satisfied with the education that their children received at JEJCS.
- 99.5% were satisfied with the way in which they (parents/families) were treated.
- 100% would recommend JEJCS to others.
Additional Information:
- The Parent Center hosted 32 formal activities with a total of 546
participants who represented 11%-71% of JEJ families during the various
activities.
- Parents of 98% of students participated in two or more conferences
with JEJCS staff.
- Parents of Three Year-Olds participated in home visits an average of
6.7 times per family.
- 94% of Threes, PreK and Kindergarten parents read to their children
every day.
