Amelia Baladez

Amelia Baladez is an Early Childhood Educator at the Salesmanship Club
Family Works Center with a degree from the University of Texas at
Dallas. Prior to joining the Family Life Education (FLE) team, Amelia
worked as a Site Manager for Mi Escuelita
Preschools, Inc. Prior to leaving Mi Escuelita,
she helped the Buckner location receive their accreditation from the
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Through those efforts and seven years experience in the early childhood
field, Amelia oversees the group room design and contributes to the
development of parent-generated curricula for all the activities used in
the
Parents Empowering Preschoolers (PEP) program.

Kalin Burke
Parent Educator, Family Life Education

Kalin Burke joined the staff of the Salesmanship Club Family Works Center
as its inception as a Parent Educator in 2006. Burke holds a B.A. from
The University of Texas at Dallas and specializes in researching and writing
her own parent training curricula. Before joining the SCYFC staff, Burke
served as a Shaken Baby Syndrome and SIDS Educator with the Child Abuse
Prevention Center. Her passion is developing innovative ways to help teen
parents transition into parenthood to be the best parents they can possibly
be.

Karen Dumas
Licensed Professional Counselor, Family Life Education

Karen Dumas is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Play
Therapist who joined Salesmanship Club in November 2008. Karen has been
working with children, adolescents, and families over the past 10 years,
specializing in trauma. Karen earned her undergraduate in Child
Development and her graduate degree in Counseling, both from the
University of North Texas. Her interest and passion are how trauma
affects children and the benefits that can come about in using play
therapy with this population.

Minerva E. Holmes

Minerva E. Holmes is a bilingual parent educator at the Salesmanship
Club Family Works Center with a Bachelor of Arts and Science from Dallas
Baptist University. Prior to joining the Family Life Education (FLE) team,
Minerva worked as a Family Advocate for the Child Care Group and Mi Escuelita
Preschool, where she specialized in working with families in obtaining
community resources to become self-sufficient. Holmes works to help families
improve their family life through gaining insights and tools needed to
better parent their children.

Maria Treviño-Powers, LCSW

Maria is a clinical social worker and Director of Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers Early Childhood Services. Prior to joining the staff of SCYFC more than 13 years ago, Maria worked with young children and adolescents experiencing psychiatric disorders in both in-patient and out-patient settings at Dallas County MHMR (currently known as Dallas MetroCare). In addition, she gained experience and knowledge in the field of child abuse and domestic violence through her work at the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center. Maria specializes in empowering young children and families to achieve their fullest potential, providing parent education, assessments and therapy for families with young children showing signs of severe behavioral difficulties.

Alina Ramirez-Ponce, PhD, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Alina is a bilingual (English/Spanish) family therapist who joined Salesmanship
Club in 2006. She is originally from Los Angeles and received her Bachelor’s
Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles in
1989. She began her community agency work at a domestic violence shelter
in the Chicago area. She later worked as an accredited legal representative
for immigrants in the Dallas area through her job with Catholic Charities
Immigration Counseling Services. She continued her work with immigrants
for several years before returning to graduate school. She earned both
her Masters and PhD in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Prior to coming to Salesmanship Club, she worked again in the field of
domestic violence at Genesis Women’s Outreach and Shelter. Her areas
of professional interest include work with Latinos, women’s issues,
and poverty. She also enjoys teaching and has served as a Visiting Professor
on the social work faculty at Texas Woman’s University and as an
adjunct at the University of Texas at Arlington.
