JEJCS Results Overview for 2007-08

Student and Family Demographics:

  • 227 students from 162 families were continuously enrolled during the 2007-08 school year.
  • 77% of JEJCS students qualified for free or reduced lunch.
  • 68% of JEJCS mothers and 61% of fathers graduated from high school.
  • Spanish was the family language for 63% of students; 29% spoke English at home; and 8% spoke both languages with their families.
  • 95% of students were Hispanic, 3% White, 1% African American, and one student was of mixed ethnicity.

Student Achievement:

  • Average daily attendance for all students was 98%.
  • 93.3% of Kindergarten-5th graders read at or above grade level at the final testing.

    TAKS
  • 92% of 3rd-5th graders passed the Reading portion of the TAKS test; 27% were commended.
  • 87% passed TAKS Math; 36% were commended.
  • 97% of 4th graders passed TAKS Writing; 48% received Commended Performance Levels.
  • 100% of 5th graders passed TAKS Science; 47% received Commended Performance Levels.

    ITBS
  • 54% of 1st-5th graders scored in the top half of the national norm for ITBS Reading.
  • 70% of students scored in the top half of the ITBS Math test.
  • 69% of 1st-5th graders scored in the top half of the national norm for ITBS Language.

    Early Childhood English Abilities
  • 79% of PreK students gained 30+ months in two years at JEJCS or achieved Kindergarten Ready.
  • 83% of Three Year-Olds gained 15+ months in English abilities (median gain = 21 months)

Parent Participation in the School:

  • The new Parent Center hosted classes (ESL, Basic Computer, Aerobics, Cross Stitch, Chess, Hairstyles, Car Maintenance, and GED), work projects, and informal meetings throughout the year.
  • Parents of 94% of students participated in two or more conferences with JEJCS staff.
  • Parents of Three Year-Olds participated in home visits an average of 7.5 times per family.
  • 94% of Threes, PreK, and Kindergarten parents read to their children every day.

    Parent Satisfaction
  • 99% of parents were satisfied with the education that their children received at JEJCS.
  • 98% were satisfied with the way in which they (parents/families) were treated.
  • 99% would recommend JEJCS to others.
