Students Excel after Leaving JEJCS

A follow-up outcome study of JEJCS graduates shows that students are making great progress in middle and high school. The Salesmanship Club contracts with external researchers at UTD to conduct follow-up outcome evaluations on JEJCS students for seven years after they leave us. The first students to attend JEJCS preschool classes were 6th graders in 2004-05 and just graduated last month; they are not included in this recent report. Instead, the report evaluates graduates who started attending JEJCS in grades 1-4. A summary of the report’s findings:

• All but one student are still enrolled or have graduated.
• Oldest group graduated high school May 2005.
• Increasing numbers taking Honors and Advanced Placement classes.
• JEJCS graduates consistently perform well academically compared to peers. They achieve a higher passing rate than DISD students and state-wide Hispanic scores in 4 of the 5 academic areas.
• JEJCS graduates experience very positive social adjustments.
• Families remain very pleased with the JEJCS experience: “Families of these students remember fondly the time in which they were a part of JEJCS. They continue to praise the education their children received, ... the sense of community the school engendered ... and the value of the transition services provided by the school and their success in making the leap to middle school . .. [Parents] are actively engaged in children’s academic experience and credit JEJCS with helping them realize the importance of being an advocate for their children’s eduction.”
