Brooke Soard, MEd
Educational Specialist

Brooke Gasper currently serves as the Educational Specialist in ICCAP. She has her Master’s of Education in Special Education from the University of North Texas with specialties in Children and Adolescents with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders and Educational Diagnostics. Gasper has worked as both a general and special education teacher in public and private schools in the DFW area. Most recently, she served as an educational consultant and teacher in the psychiatric unit at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. Her areas of interest include assessments of infants and children from birth to school age and working with at-risk youth with emotional needs. The most rewarding part of Gasper's job is working with children and their families and serving as an advocate for the child.

Ken Graves, PhD

Ken has been with SCYFC since 2002 and currently serves as Director of the Infant-Child Comprehensive Assessment Program. His special interest is children from birth to six and their families. He has done teaching, training and clinical work in university, hospital and outpatient clinic settings. In addition to his full-time job as a husband, father and grandfather, Ken has more than 25 years experience working with young children and families with developmental, behavioral and emotional challenges. He does training related to child and family issues with parents, childcare professionals, educators, mental health professionals and professionals in the judicial system. Ken is also an avid collector of Mickey Mouse toys, watches and memorabilia.

Cecilia Juárez-Lazcano, M.S.

Cecilia joined SCYFC in September 2007 and serves as team leader in the Infant-Child Comprehensive Assessment Program. Her special interest is children from birth to six and their families. She came to America in 2004 on a scholarship from the Mexican government to pursue a Masters degree in Human Development and Early Childhood Disorders at The University of Texas Dallas. Her previous professional experience includes teaching, summer camp coordination and training. She has more than eight years experience working with young children and families.

María Sánchez, LMSW

María A. Sánchez is a bilingual Licensed Master Social Worker in the Infant-Child Comprehensive Assessment Program at Salesmanship Club Family Works Center. Sánchez completed her masters degree at The University of Texas at Arlington in 2005 and became licensed in the State of Texas in 2006. Sánchez has been with Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers since 1996 in different capacities. She worked as an intake coordinator, worked in Social Services to help families access needed resources and services and now works with infants and children from birth to six doing assessments in the home. Maria’s professional interests include cultural diversity and issues involving the Spanish speaking community.

Cathy Schiffer, LCSW

Cathy Schiffer, LCSW is one the team leaders for the Infant Child Comprehensive Assessment Program at the Family Works Center. Schiffer received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Florida State University and her master’s degree in Social Work from The University of Texas at Austin. Schiffer has worked at numerous area agencies including Hope Cottage Adoption Agency, Child and Family Guidance Centers, and Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, serving children and their families with diverse backgrounds. She has practiced therapy for fourteen years and specializes in individual therapy, family therapy and non-directive play therapy. Her primary orientation is Systems and Psychodynamic theory but maintains an eclectic approach to intervention to make a transforming difference in the lives of Dallas children and their families.

Jeri Warren, PhD

Warren is a licensed psychologist and licensed specialist in school psychology. She completed her Ph.D. in school psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2002 and became licensed as a psychologist in the state of Texas in 2003. Prior to joining the Salesmanship Club Family Works Center in 2006, she practiced in several local school districts. Jeri’s professional interests include early identification and intervention and cultural diversity issues in mental health.

Toni Welden, MSN, RN

Born in Dallas, Texas, Welden is a third generation Dallasite, fifth generation Texan raised in Oak Cliff, educated in DISD.

She has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with minors in management, sociology and English from Texas Tech University. Welden also attended Texas A&M University. After working for a psychologist, she returned to school and received an associate degree in Nursing from Dallas County Community College. Following this, Welden worked at Medical City Hospital as staff nurse, charge nurse and a nurse manager in critical care.

While taking a sabbatical from nursing, she worked as a classroom instructor for eight years in Richardson ISD and Highland Park ISD then returned to school to receive both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Nursing from University of Phoenix while working as school nurse in Plano Independent School District.

Welden joined Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers in August of 2006 where she is the nurse for the Infant-Child Comprehensive Assessment Program, the nurse for the staff psychiatrist and a consultant to the agency’s J. Erik Jonsson Community School. Welden has one daughter.
